Finding a good party is difficult but London makes it this little bit easier. When we got inspired to do our Halloween outfits we got carried away in researching Andy Warhol and Edie Sedwick. So, one might think, our latest find understandably is Die Freche Muse’s ‘Warhol Factory Party’. A night themed on Warhol’s famous Factory, for those who don not know what it is please! google it quickly. We will follow up with a post from the party as this one is published just before we go…

Our little "FACTORY" - Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick

This year Halloween comes on a Wednesday but the weekend preceding this goolish night was a perfect excuse for us to 'practice' for the big day.

We had a pumpkin, which is a necessity, and all the beauty equipment we needed to make ourselves the scariest of creatures. But we thought we must leave this fun for Wednesday. So! The decision was made and influenced by the 60s music in the background, we became Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick.

Here we present the outcome of the night. Photographs are an interpretation 'my own version' of famous pair's photos with few of our own ideas thrown in.

Waterloo Bridge

Waterloo Bridge, architecturally not very attractive structure but this spot in the heart of London has probably most amazing views of a cityscape.

On the west side the views contain the tourist and politics mecca Houses of Parliament, London Eye and South Bank Centre. And on the east side constantly developing cluster of financial skyscrapers.

The west side view is particularly striking. It is a very romantic surrounding therefore showing this to someone special is highly advised and it is also very inspirational hence it has appeared as a setting for one of our posts. 

Tim Walker: "Story Teller" - Somerset House

Greatly awaited exhibition, Tim Walker’s “Story Teller”, is finally open. Like every admirer of Tim’s work we ventured to Somerset House to experience the works of one of the famous fashion photographers this world produced.

We entered the first room of East Wing with expectation that most of the props in his photographs were a digital creation. But to our surprise we encountered a real size spitfire made out of polystyrene and fiberglass, used in the photo shoot for British Vogue 2009, which triggered a notion that the rest of his work is done the same way. Progressing onwards in the exhibition aforementioned notions were true.

Because of the presence of props materials and installations the exhibition evokes a feeling of being on a photo shoot set during which you can develop an understanding on how an image in a magazine editorial comes to be. This is also emphasised by enlarged storyboards from an editorial for Italian Vogue, where intriguingly scary giant doll was used (the storyboards can be seen on the photo where Ewa stands next to the giant doll).

When researching further about the exhibition I found that this show is really all about set design and close relationship between Tim Walker and set designers.   

One might argue that props draw more interest than the photographs but I think they give an insight into the process of photography without revealing every secret of the trade in addition increasing admiration for a photograph.
